A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Although I'm on vacation, today was a work day for dear daughter. After helping drag my luggage to her apartment, she was off to work and I was on my own.

After a quick wash-up and change of clothes, I was off to the grocery store (literally) across the street. Undoubtedly I could have found enough to eat in the dear daughter's refrigerator, but with two of us eating, I'm sure we'll use up supplies quickly, and it seemed easier to buy a few things than to dig.

Lunch consisted of  meat and cheese,

yogurt and egg salad (with asparagus and mushrooms),

and a few extra goodies.

So will dinner. And breakfast tomorrow. And lunch tomorrow. Etc.

After lunch, I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and go for a walk in the neighborhood. Wherever I go, I'm fascinated by architectural details. Today a common theme in my photographs was balconies. Berliners love their balconies.

I also noticed several charming Gardens. I particularly liked these two.

About the midpoint of my walk I found a place to rest in this corner of the neighborhood.

In addition to some benches, there was a huge mosaic stag in the sidewalk.

Everywhere I went  could see the signs of winter, particularly the gravel they spread on the snow and will sweep up in within a few weeks.

But there were also undeniable signs of spring. First I noticed some crocus shoots, then (I think) hyacinths, and finally some tulip shoots.

Spring will be in Berlin soon. Probably before I leave.
